Our Story

Sean Smith

Over my 29-year journey as a public school teacher, I've worn many hats – from leading a district program for students with behavioral challenges to serving as a summer school principal. My passion has always been creating inclusive learning environments where every student can thrive.

As an intermediate resource teacher at Tecumseh Elementary, I currently support students with diverse learning needs while also chairing our Pro-D Committee. My experience spans multiple schools across Vancouver, where I've had the privilege of working with amazing students, families, and colleagues.

I believe in the power of technology to transform learning, which is why I regularly lead workshops and "Lunch 'n Learn" sessions to help fellow educators integrate digital tools into their teaching. My background in special education has given me a deep appreciation for how different students learn, and I've leveraged this understanding throughout my career to advocate for inclusive practices.

My newest project is developing narrative textbooks and study guides for middle school subjects that are fully differentiated across four reading levels. Each set of materials covers identical concepts but is carefully adapted to meet learners where they are – from Grade 7 (Level A) down to Grade 1 (Level D). This approach ensures all students can access the same curriculum content in ways that make sense for their individual needs.

Community involvement has always been important to me – from organizing school-wide events and sports days to leading food drives and holiday fundraisers. I believe education extends beyond classroom walls, and I strive to foster connections between school and community.

When I'm not teaching or developing curriculum, you might find me presenting at professional development conferences, mentoring new teachers, or continuously enhancing my own skills to better serve my students.
